Baby keepsake --- Fad or Fallacy A A
A "keepsake" is an item that is stored to remind us at a certain time, place certain, specific person, or a particular event. Memories come in various shapes and forms. My husband saves the crushed stone pointed with barbed wire to cut hole for himself, his horse, and a group of cattle to go home during the storm north. This rock has been sitting on our fireplace for at least 35 years. He also has a weapon which belongs his great-grandfather and another from his grandfather. I have a school bell that my great-grandmother bought with his first salary. Since I was the first teacher in the family, my grandmother gave to me. I kept my "special gift" given to my children and also the first pair of shoes each. A "special gift" for infants could eventually become one of the mementos.
Parents are the ones who choose what will be a memento for their baby immediately after birth. These memories are more important for parents at that moment than they are to children .. Grandparents, siblings, and friends give a gift new baby. Usually it's something unique gifts such as a personal blanket towels, hooded, baby bib, or even a silver cup or spoon with baby's name engraved on it. I remember my great aunt sent the mother-of-pearl teething ring with silver hearts for my baby boy. I keep and give it to her when her first child was born. I do this with all the memories my children when they become parents for the first time and I only hope that this will be handed down from generation to generation.
Memento does not mean for the child when she was small, they usually have to put yourself so they are not destroyed. When a child gets a little older, they seem happy with something that reminds them that they had a baby. I see that as a school teacher, children would bring in things from their infancy period to show .. Even grade 8 in school where I teach will bring photos of their baby at the time of graduation to display. Some of the first to bring this in is the children who do not even remember to submit their homework. So each child proudly showing that they are still cute baby and loved and cared for as a child.
